Bigbasket, India’s largest online supermarket, launched its new healthy food range ‘GoodDiet’ on 20th January 2018 at the ongoing Organics and Millets 2018 – International Trade Fair organized by the Government of Karnataka. The food range was unveiled by Shri Krishna Byre Gowda, Hon’ble Minister of Agriculture for State, Government of Karnataka in the presence of Mr Seshu Kumar Tirumala, National Head, Buying and Merchandising, bigbasket.

In his statement, Shri Krishna Byre Gowda, Hon’ble Minister of Agriculture for State Government of Karnataka said he is happy to be at the launch bigbasket’s new range – GoodDiet at the Organics and Millets 2018 – International Trade Fair. Events such as this are great opportunities for like-minded organizations to interact and build lasting relationships as also showcase their product offerings on a large scale. He congratulated bigbasket on launching these healthy products — an initiative that will result in the overall well-being of the country’s people at large, due to the fact that the company has such a large customer base. Looking back upon the continual efforts to advance millets since last year, Shri. Byregowda said: “Last year at the national organics and millets we proved to the big players that India has a market which wants to purchase healthy foods. Today, after an year, I am very happy to join the Big Basket team in introducing their new range of healthy food products. These products are made in Karnataka and in the process of entering the market new jobs were created.”

Speaking at the launch, Mr Seshu Tirumala, National Head, Buying and Merchandising, bigbasket, said, “I am extremely grateful to the hon’ble minister for sparing valuable time from his schedule and launching our new range of products. There could have been no better event to launch this product other than Organics and Millets 2018 at the trade fair. It will provide the GoodDiet range the much-needed leverage. The idea behind this new and healthy range of eatables was to cater to the ever-increasing demand of healthier and quicker food options. These are highly nutritional foods and superfoods. With this, we are not only adding a new category to our existing range of health and diet products but also giving our valued customers a push towards leading healthier lives.”

The GoodDiet range consists of ready-to-cook mixes, roasted snacks, and other superfoods. The ready-to-eat mixes are made from whole-grains such as Foxtail Millet, Ragi, Kodo Millet, and Oats. Among the various options in roasted snacks include roasted flaxseeds, roasted pumpkin seeds, and chia seeds. The superfoods include a wide variety from amaranth grains, buckwheat flour to pumpkin seeds, ancient wild rice etc. This new offering by bigbasket not only retains that flavor factor but also gives a healthier twist to cooking and snacking.

With a few hundred daily orders, bigbasket had a modest beginning. In six years, with the support of its customers, it has surpassed the 50,000 daily orders mark to become India’s largest online supermarket& 6th largest grocery retailer of India across online & offline formats. The company has recently crossed the 6 million customers mark. bigbasket has also recently strengthened its B2B business by expanding to the HoReCa (Hotels, Restaurants, and Caterers) segment and partnering with SnapBizz, a retail-technology firm, in an effort to transform India’s kirana stores into technology-enabled modern retail stores. bigbasket closed the previous fiscal year with Rs 1,410 crore in revenue and broke even in 2 key markets – Bangalore & Hyderabad in its slotted delivery business.
