HOSMAT hospital, a premier Orthopaedic Accident Trauma hospital in Bangalore city in association with Kannada Prasara Parishat is having Kannada classes (Spoken & Script) since 2006.
Dr. Thomas Chandy Chairman & Chief of Orthopaedic of HOSMAT, who has provided classrooms for this, at free of cost, said “Initially these classes were meant for doctors, nurses, paramedics and students of HOSMAT hospital, as demand for learning Kannada by non Kannadigas, has increased, these classes were opened for public also, and so far, about 2500 to 3000 non Kannadigas have learnt spoken Kannada”.
Even foreigners from the US, Germany, English & Korea, living in Bangalore, attended this Kannada classes. Indians like Doctors, Software Engineers, Students, Nurses, Housewife are among them According to B V Raghavan of Kannada Parasar Parishat “Non localites, in the city, are learning Kannada to deal with people like auto rickshaw drivers, shopkeepers, Bescom etc. We also conduct classes for people keen to learn advanced Kannada”.
According to Dr. Ajith Benedict Rayan Medical Director, HOSMAT, “these classes will help Non-Kannadigas to learn Kannada, especially parents, as Karnataka government made it mandatory for schools to have Kannada as a subject. Spoken and Script Kannada classes are held on Sundays, from 10.30am to 1 pm, at HOSMAT Hospital.
